Hal may or may not be in love. His current girlfriend is wonderful. Everyone likes her; his parents and sister, his friends. But even though she is seemingly perfect, he can't get a handle on his feelings. He cries often. She cons him into saying he loves her. Fearing what to do next, he moves. To Europe, in 1943. Europe is in the middle of a war. He sets up a hut and begins to give shelter to those in need. Eventually, one of the people in need is a girl. It is a former love of his who is in the service as a nurse, who got separated from her unit and started wandering. She tells him what love is and they have sex. While having sex one evening, he realizes that he is in love with his 'perfect' girlfriend, the one who he left. By this point, the war is over and when he returns home, he finds out that his 'perfect' girlfriend has gone looking for him. She has gone to Europe in search of her. He once wrote her a letter and she goes to seek out that address. Well, he left the nurse the house and when the 'perfect' girlfriend arrives there to find the old flame of his, she cries. Knowing no one else, she stays there. The old flame is bisexual and one night kisses the 'perfect' girlfriend. Even though it feels wrong the 'perfect' girlfriend goes through with it, because she is so distraught over Hal. They fall in love. The 'perfect' girlfriend writes a letter home, and her family, who understands Hal's belief gives him the address. It is his former address!
So he goes back to Europe only to find that they have moved. Well he walks around for a while, pondering life. He stops at a local bar and tells his tale. It turns out that his old flame has been cheating on the perfect girlfriend with the guy he is telling the story to. This guy is in love with the old flame, but she wont leave the perfect girlfriend, becuse the perfect girlfriend wouldnt be able to take losing Hal and her. Hal and this guy devise a plan to get their women. END
