The birth of Arthur Hanley. At the opening of the Rutgers-Camden show at the Markeim Museum in Haddonfield, NJ, I was to perform and discuss the definition of art. There is a tree in front of the entrance, off to the left, that has a limb about 15 feet up. With the idea of an outcast still lingering in my mind, I created the character Arthur Hanley, a hobo who grew up in Oregon and has made his way to the East Coast. He just so happened to be in that tree while this event was taking place.
Art has a fondness for mini Tootsie Rolls and dropped them from the tree throughout his 90 minute monologue.
This piece was performed in October of 2005. It wasn't rehearsed or written, it was all stream of consciousness improvisation.
